  • Bishop Dubois, one of our first New York bishops is buried here in the historic crypt. The wonderful interior has seen much history. Venerable Pierre Toussant whose body was translated from here to the "new" St Patrick's Cathedral used to come to this "uptown" church on many charitable deeds. St Elizabeth Ann Seton's Sisters of Charity opened the first school in the Catholic system here across the street. The church is still very important to the still present Italian-American community and is reaching the new residents under the dynamic pastor Msgr. Sakano.

  • Although the address is officially on Mulberry Street, the church entrance is on Mott Street. The door on Mulberry Street leads to the sacristy.

It's not as well-known as its counterpart on 5th Avenue but the cathedral is noteworthy on its own for being the seat of the archdiocese of New York in the 1800s and the first church in the US dedicated to the Irish saint. It's not remarkable on the outside but really beautiful inside.

  • Once I learned that the original Saint Patrick's Cathedral was still open, I wanted to visit. Unfortunately my schedule and their visiting hours never matched, until now. Glad I got a chance to visit. This classic old minor basilica was great to visit. I hope to get a chance to visit and take their tour, lots of history to see and understand. It's also in a part of town that's fun to visit and explore.

  • Coming from the northeast I love the old church feel inside, I personally don't like these modern style catholic churches that feel more like a conference room then a worship space. This church brings that good old school awe inspiring feel to it, it feels catholic.
The church has both English and Spanish liturgies. Range around an hour long for mass. Music is good. They have somebody who knows how to play the Organ.
I have seen three different priests offer mass and each with a unique style.

If you are looking for a typical Catholic Worship place this is the church for you. Nothing crazy or radical and you need not try to guess what is going to happen next. They follow the rite. That is why I like it.

  • Love the design and even though it isn't quite as impressive as the gothic European churches and cathedrals, it certainly has charm!
